Nashua Youth Soccer League

Soccer

Indoor soccer with NYSL 101

NYSL does not run or manage indoor soccer directly. Tyngsboro Sports Center (TSC) creates all rules, regulations, and schedules for indoor soccer. NYSL collects registrations and creates teams to play at TSC.

sessions

TSC Typically offers 3 seven-week sessions of indoor soccer.

  • Session 1: November / December (between Halloween and Christmas)
  • Session 2: January / February (between New Year's Day and President's Day)
  • Session 3: Normally President's Day to early April, although not available in March/April 2023.

Cost

$90 per session

  • NYSL collects this fee at time of registration
  • If we cannot place you on a teamof solely NYSL players, NYSL will place you as a Free Agent, TSC will find you a team, or NYSL will provide a refund.
  • This fee gets your child a spot on a team.
  • TSC charges a $15 membership fee each year. You will pay this once and you will pay this directly to TSC.

Teams

  • NYSL creates and registers team with TSC. This allows NYSL players to play together.
  • NYSL makes every attempt to register teams in the proper division to ensure teams are competitive.

Apparel

  • Shin guards are required
  • Cleats can be worn, standard outdoor cleats are acceptable. No metal spikes.
  • NYSL uniforms are typically worn by teams

What to expect

  • Indoor is played on turf
  • Fields can have boards, think hockey boards, or typical lines as in outdoor.
  • There are no practices, you play one 1-hour game per week, mostly on Saturday or Sunday.
  • Indoor soccer is fast paced, much faster than traditional outdoor.
  • Many of the teams that participate at TSC are seasoned team that have been together for many seasons.
  • The level of recreational competition at TSC is higher than NYSL Recreational.
  • Players should be ready for a fast-paced game with the possibility of having high scores or lopsided games.

TSC Rules

Indoor soccer is similar to outdoor soccer, with a couple of minor modifications due to the smaller playing field.

The Tyngsboro Sport Center has two types of fields, a boarded field (field 1 at the Progress Ave location) and a lined field (fields 2, 3, 4, and 5).

Boarded Feild: The boarded field is shaped something like a hockey rink.

  • No corner kicks, goal kicks or throw-ins on this type of field - boards keep everything in play.
  • Free kicks are awarded when the ball goes over the boards.
  • No knocking people into the boards.

Lined fields have touch and goal lines, just like an outdoor field.

  • Basic outdoor rules apply with the exceptions listed below.

Both Fields:

  • Balls that hit the overhead net are considered dead. An indirect kick will be awared to the team that did not kick the ball.
  • Goal kicks cannot go across three lines
  • Goalies cannot punt, drop kicks are permitted
  • Goalie throws cannot cross midfield
  • Players get substituted during live play (similar to hockey) and do not wait for a dead ball or referee permission.
  • Add a player to the field when down by 5 goals. Add another player to the field when down by 10 goals (it happens).
  • Normal outdoor cleats are allowed, as are shorter indoor cleats, or sneakers.
  • No offsides penalties will be called.
  • Scoreboard clock is official - referees do not add time to halves.
  • No slide tackling at any age.
  • Start times of games are not delayed for late players. If you do not have the players on the field to play at the start of the game, the match is forfeit.

For U8:

  • All awarded kicks are indirect - no direct kicks or penalty kicks
  • Play is 5v5 (one keeper and four positional players)
  • Keeper may only throw the ball - no punts or drop kicks.
